Faced with 21st century cynicism, Michael Lovett – the brains behind NZCA Lines – is undeterred as he presents the story of Cairo-Athens, a metropolis that dominates Earth, far in the future. Narrative aside, what’s most striking about Infinite Summer is how comprehensively it manages to avoid being baggy or self-indulgent, so often the pitfall of an album of this nature. Contrastingly, every song is a lean electro-pop statement, consistently hitting the sweet spot between analogue and digital instrumentation. Fans of Metronomy are going to be delighted by the laidback funkiness that runs throughout.
