7digital What we said: What will it take for Tame Impala to feel like they belong? The respect of their peers? Critical acclaim? Awards? It would appear not: Kevin Parker and co achieved all that and more with Innerspeaker and yet, going by album number two, they still seem most comfortable contemplating life from the periphery. Sonically, Lonerism finds Perth’s finest improving upon their unique brand of outsider rock n roll, with a hallucinogenic, synth-heavy set pitched somewhere between the sun-warped aesthetics of Animal Collective and the Beatles at their most psychedelic. As sophomore efforts go, it’s deeply impressive, and can surely only increase their fanbase further. Not that they’ll notice.
