7digital What we said: A decade on from her debut, Natasha Khan continues to acquit herself as one of the UK’s brightest musical talents with an ambitious concept record centred around doomed nuptials. Khan is convincing as the titular bride-to-be – widowed prior to the wedding – and delivers a sensitive portrayal of the ensuing emotional fall-out. The Bride is intended to soundtrack a feature film, and it shows in the cinematic arrangements, be that the Angelo Baladamenti-esque ‘Close Encounters’ or the eerie sound design that encircles Khan’s soliloquy on ‘Widow’s Peak’. In keeping with the sombre subject matter, this is also a markedly more subdued set than The Haunted Man, but what the album lacks in energy it more than makes up for in exquisitely beautiful songwriting.
